RE: AB 1529 (Vasconcellos) -- Support

Dear Governor Wilson:

The California Nurses Association supports AB 1529 (Vasconcellos) which would eliminate California's prohibition against possessing marijuana or growing marijuana for individuals using marijuana for medical purposes.

Many patients suffering from and receiving treatment for cancer, AIDS, glaucoma and multiple sclerosis receive relief from using marijuana. Marijuana helps patients with nausea, vomiting and muscle spasms where other medications are not effective. Currently, these patients must break the law to use marijuana to relieve their symptoms. This measure is a compassionate alternative for patients suffering from these diseases to obtain relief.

For these reasons, the California Nurses Association supports AB 1529 and respectfully requests your signature.

Sincerely,

Kurt Laumann, RN
President
