ILLICIT TRAFFICKING IN NARCOTICS BRISK
_______________
Geneva Committee Reports No Diminution in Trade in 1934 Despite Efforts.
_______________
Wireless to The New York Times.
GENEVA, MAY 25. -- Illicit narcotic traffic was not diminished in 1934 despite effective
supervision of manufacture, improved international cooperation and increased police work,
according to the report of the League of Nations Narcotics Seizures Committee today.
Instead, this traffic appears to have increased.
Prices of narcotics on the illicit market fell considerably, in the United States, for example, 50 per cent since Jan. 1. Lawful manufacture, the report says, is not in excess of world requirements. It would therefore seem that the main supply of manufactured drugs to illicit traffic must come from clandestine factories.
