DRCNet Response to the
Drug Enforcement Administration
Methamphetamine Situation in the United States
The total weight and number of methamphetamine removals (seizures and purchases) submitted to DEA for analysis have increased over the past 4 years. During FY 1994 and FY 1995, the number of removals increased by 30 percent and 28 percent, respectively.
Not unexpectedly, the geographic distribution of methamphetamine removals has been fairly consistent over time, with most of the methamphetamine being seized by the Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and Denver Field Divisions. The removals for FY 1995 are highlighted by a 306 kilogram seizure made in the Denver Field Division. Methamphetamine removals increased noticeably in the Atlanta, Chicago, and St. Louis Filed Divisions.
